LIFE MARONESA is a project supported by the EU, which is taking place in Serra do Alvão, in the municipalities of Vila Real, Mondim de Basto, Ribeira de Pena and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.
It will help implement the EU’s climate change adaptation strategy, reducing the risk of forest fires and increasing the climate resilience of agriculture.
The project will establish an integrated framework to encourage climate action in the project area, favoring the regression of abandonment of mountain pastures.
It will ensure a better understanding and assessment of the economic and social benefits of carrying out climate action work, targeting repercussions in the meat market and complementary sectors.
It will encourage knowledge transfer between livestock farmers and between livestock farmers and the local population, seeking to involve new farmers and transfer/replication to other areas.
